For today's blog, we didn't do much so far; it's been more of a chill day. So far, I woke up, got dressed, went through the same dreadful process of packing all my stuff into my bag, and, in retrospect, I could've packed a little less or used a different bag, but nevertheless I digress. Besides packing up all our stuff, our day went on as normal: breakfast and cleanup. Then we finished our soil analysis by measuring canopy density with a densimeter; we used both the old-school version, which is like a little wooden box, and the more high-tech one that was shaped like a gun, but I guess that's America for you. I think I prefer the little box. After all the data were collected for that, we moved on to entering it into a spreadsheet, which took up most of the morning; for the majority of our morning, up until noon, we worked on our computers for the spreadsheet and a poster for our presentation. One little highlight from our stay in Wellpinit was this little prairie dog trying to get into the RV that was full of our food. Sergio was the one who pointed it out, and advisor Jessica went sprinting, yelling, "Monett! It's in there!" Then the little prairie dog made contact for like 2 seconds, and then Monett came running out yelling, "Get out of here!" and it jumped off the stairs, and it kind of reminded me of the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks. The rest of the day was a pretty chill day spent the rest of the afternoon driving to our next campsite at Harris Park Campground, which is on the South Fork of Walla Walla. We only stopped a few times: once to get gas, then at Walmart for groceries and anything else we needed. For me personally, I desperately needed a pillow, some chapstick, a belt to hold my pants, and a lot of stuff for my allergies. The funny thing about this is I know I needed this stuff when I was packing my stuff at home, but as I was leaving, it completely left my mind, and I even checked my bag 3 times that morning before I left; I still forgot a lot of stuff. I guess that's what I get for packing last minute. Anyway, it was like another hour until we got to the campsite, and when we arrived, we unpacked and set up our tents and cooked dinner. Then we just chilled; kind of. The campgrounds are really nice, and if it wasn't for the cold, the grass being wet, and the bugs and wildlife, I totally would've slept outside. They have this open field where they have this net; well, it's more like a close line, but there was once a net there, anyway; it's like a volleyball area. Judy and I ended up playing bat mittens there due to our lack of volleyball and a net; we bonded over trauma. It was nice. Afterwards, we went and checked out the campfire the boys set up, and played some cards.
